The Patron’s Medal has been struck to recognize those who give generous support to the aims and objectives of the Canadian Lifeboat Institution.
For centuries the anchor has been the symbol of hope to mariners and their families. It symbolizes the hope for a successful voyage and a safe homecoming.
For this reason the CLI has chosen a fouled anchor as the central device on the obverse of the medal. This device is surrounded by two rows of layed rope supporting the words “CANADIAN LIFEBOAT INSTITUTION” and the Canadian maple leaves.
The reverse side has a device featuring the CLI House Flag displaying a cross with outline over which is layed a fouled anchor topped by a Tudor Naval Crown. The central device is surrounded by two rows of rope supporting the motto: “THE SEA SHALL NOT HAVE THEM”.
The handsome medal – available in Gold, Silver and Bronze – is supported by a distinctive red and blue patrons ribbon. Minatures may be ordered for dress wear.
Note:This same medal will be awarded to crews of lifeboats who conduct heroic acts in the line of their voluntary duty. This award has a distinctive red and white ribbon.
